At the young age of twelve, Jay Harris began developing his skill and love for jewelling and eventually graduating from Maine College of Art in 1996 he continues to expand his education. Recently returning from Burbank, California after spending several days completing the Firestorm Training, an intensive training course by Ignite Technologies for Computer Aided Designs (CAD), the most advanced designing, editing, and styling software in the industry. Harris had the honor of learning this software from the very own Ray Babikian, the founder of Firestorm CAD, and the Master trainer and instructor for the seminars giving hands on training to the jewelers who attended. Harris was one of twelve jewelers selected across the country to attend these training seminars, and one of only six who successfully completed the courses and becoming CAD certified. This technology has assisted in how Harris designs jewelry. He has evolved from traditional methods of hand drawing designs to a more exciting system through the use of computer. This software allows customers to take control of their ideas and visually watch their ideas come to life. The customer can see their finished product in extreme detail before it’s made. The finished design can be seen in three dimensions and computer rendered to look real. “The beauty is the ability to make changes until we get exactly what the customer is looking for.” Harris describes the pros of this new software. “This process can produce results and designs previously unobtainable by traditional jewelry methods.” Harris continues.Firestorm Computer Aided Design Software is currently only available at Waldron and Rhodes Fine Jewelers in the state of Vermont, the sky is the limit for customers who want to see their ideas become a reality.
